Open Adoption Journey: 2 married guys in D.C. wishing to adopt a baby boy from birth mother. Ask for Eddie & Mehl at 1-800-385-6301 (Family to Family Adoptions). https://twitter.com/mytwofathers
We both come from close-knit families from North America and South America, and truly believe our shared value of family life is part of what brought us together.
MEHL: I grew up with a large family, so life was filled with family get-togethers for birthdays, anniversaries, graduations and every holiday in Missouri. Growing up they packed the entire family in the van and we all headed to Colorado to have quality time during the summers. Today, Eddie and I visit our siblings who live in places such as Los Angeles, CA, Berea, KY and Kingsville, MO. We had the privilege to celebrate my parents’ 50th wedding anniversary a few years ago, and it was really an unforgettable and beautiful celebration.
EDDIE: My parents (who celebrated 46 years of marriage this year), younger brother and the rest of my extended family live in Lima, Peru. My older brother and older sister live in Chicago and Toronto, respectively. So I come from another numerous family too. My maternal grandfather was the last one of 14 kids — so you do the math! I was also raised by loving grandparents who with their guidance, caring deeds and wonderful lessons passed from generations to generations, taught me the most important things in life: To live life fully, honestly, give the best of myself always and to cherish those I love.
Even though there is distance between our families and us, we are both very close to them, and they are fully supportive of our decision to adopt. Within both of our families, we have 11 nieces and nephews that we love very much and enjoy spoiling rotten.
In addition to family, we have a close network of friends we also consider family all over the US, but especially here in DC and in Houston (We are blessed!). We love hanging out with our single and married friends and with the ones with children, having dinners together, going to the movies and always getting involved with our community. Our families, our neighbors and all of our friends are VERY excited about our adoption journey and they can’t wait to help us out every step of the way. It’s true that friends are the family you choose for yourself, and our friends are just the best in the world. We cherish the relationships we have with them and are thankful they are an intricate part of our lives. For example, we love to babysit Fen. He is a gorgeous almost 2-year old baby boy from our dear friends and neighbors Rob and Maria who live a few blocks away from us.
Cheers,
Mehl&Eddie
